Exciting advances have been made!

Significant increase in progression-free survival when adding elotuzumab to pomalidomide/dexamethasone in the treatment of previously treated multiple myeloma.
It is well known that obesity has detrimental effects on our health and wellbeing. Read here about its consequences in cancer and the paradoxical effect on survival after treatment with checkpoint inhibitors.
here are some interesting facts on cancer and the impact of exercises. “The impact of exercise on cancer outcomes may be mediated by tumor subtype. For example, hormone receptor– positive breast cancers appear to be more responsive to exercise than HER2-amplified or triple-negative subtypes.

New advances made in the treatment of lung cancer. Clinical trials showed prolonged progression-free survival with checkpoint inhibitor therapy. The phase III PACIFIC trial demonstrated an overall survival benefit for the selective programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) checkpoint inhibitor durvalumab (Imfinzi) vs placebo in patients with unresectable stage III NSCLC

In an analysis published in JAMA Oncology, the use of low-dose aspirin was associated with a reduced risk of epithelial ovarian cancer.
On the other hand, the use of nonaspirin nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) seems to be associated with an increased risk.
Cancer immunotherapy has many faces. One of them are checkpoint inhibitors, such as pembrolizumab, which is a humanized monoclonal antibody against programmed death 1 (PD-1).
The New England Journal of Medicine just published results from a phase 3 cinical trial, showing that immunotherapy with the PD-1 inhibitor pembrolizumab is more effective in the treatment of PD-L1 positive advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) than chemotherapy.
These results do not only show the potential of cancer immunotherapy but also highlights the importance of getting your cancer tissue tested for genetic characteristics and surface markers to find the best treatment option for you.
